BINGE EATING DISORDER

What is Binge-Eating Disorder (B.E.D.)?

food

Binge Eating Disorder is similar to Bulimia disorder but without the purging afterwards. It is characterised by periods of continuous eating and an inability to stop. Discipline and a lack of control over the intake of food has been lost and the individual will continue eating even if they are feeling physical uncomfortable and unable to move.

Binge eating commonly occurs in secret when the individual is either bored, lonely, or feeling depressed. This behaviour will eventually become a severe bad habit which the person is unable to break. The knock on effect is feelings of shame, guilt and self-loathing, leading to a loss of confidence and self-esteem. Often psychological and emotional disturbances are underlying and the only option is to seek professional help with professional counselling and psychotherapy.
