What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy also known as CBT is a therapeutic model of psychotherapy which examines our daily ‘thinking’ and ‘behaviour’. These two components of our lives have a direct affect on our feelings.
Over time, thought patterns can become very negative causing a distorted view of oneself and the world around a person. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy involves working on challenging core beliefs about how an individual thinks about ourselves, other people and the world around us. At the same time, it also examines the choices the individual is making and the reasons why. In therapy, the person identifies the root causes of his emotional state and I given ways to change what may be necessary.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a very solution focused therapy and can, most often be a short term therapy. Gradually with each counselling session, clients are helped to change their thinking and behaviour and so effectively begin to make more effective productive choices and lead a more positive, satisfying, quality lifestyle.
