What is EDNOS (Eating Disorders Not Otherwise Specified)?
There are many other sub-categories of eating disorders which come under the heading of EDNOS (Eating Disorders Not Otherwise Specified). EDNOS is thought to account for up to 50% of eating disorder diagnosis.
People with Eating disorders not otherwise specified would fall into this category due to the fact that they do not show specifically the characteristics of the other eating disorders, but still have an unhealthy relationship with food. They could show at times signs of the other disorders for example, Starving, bingeing, purging. They would also have habit forming behaviours with food, such as eating irregularly, maybe only at night time, finds it difficult to eat in the company or others, for example restaurants and so on.
Eating disorders are very treatable with the help of Counselling & Psychotherapy. However, medical intervention may be required for serious illness, such as Anorexia.
